Friends, in today's article, we will tell you what is a megapixel and we will give you information about what is a pixel along with a megapixel and at the same time will tell you what can be its advantages in your camera A smartphones.

Pixel is the smallest part of the image which is represented in the camera with megapixel.  Nowadays any phone maker tries to give maximum number of megapixels and attracts customers towards its product. But can a more megapixel smartphone or camera really deliver a great photo?  Is it worth spending money on a phone with more megapixels?  To know the answer to this, first you have to understand about pixel. So in today's article I am with you, what is Pixel?  What is Megapixel?  What is resolution?  Will share information about the advantages of more megapixels, etc.  So let's go ahead and find out.

What is Megapixel

Mega which is also denoted by M, means 1 Million i.e. 10 Lakh.  Therefore, 1 megapixel means 1 million pixels.  Similarly 2 megapixels means 2 million pixels. While describing the camera features of any smartphone, it is definitely spoken about megapixels.

In a phone, its resolution is measured in the form of megapixels.  For example, if the camera of a phone is 12 megapixels, then the image formed from it will have a total of 12 million i.e. 12,000,000 (1 crore 20 lakh) pixels. usually the pixels are square and form a grid, a 1 megapixel camera produces an image with a width of about 1200 pixels and a height of 900 pixels.

The more megapixels the zooming or cropping is, the better.  For example, there are also some camera phones without optical zoom lens in which there is no loss in quality when zooming the photo, because they have a camera with more megapixels. photos with more megapixels provide information in more detail but the file size increases, so it takes more time while transferring or sending and also takes up more storage.

What is GrayScale

The value of a pixel at any point is indicated on the basis of the intensity of the image at that place, which is called grayscale or gray-level.  Grayscale is a range of gray shades (colors between white and black) in which colors are not visible.

In this the darkest color is black which indicates absence of reflected light and the brightest color is white which is total reflection of light. The colors of light converted to grayscale are displayed between black and white with equal brightness levels of the three primary colors red, green and blue, or with equal amounts of the three primary pigments cyan, magenta and yellow.

What is Pixel

Pixel is the smallest element of an image.  Each pixel is equal to one value.  This value is given on the basis of 8-bit grayscale which can range from 0 to 255.  The value of a pixel at any point is equal to the light intensity hitting that point.  Each pixel present at a particular location stores value in the appropriate proportion of the light intensity at that location.

How are Pixels Made?

Whenever we click a photo with a digital camera or smartphone camera, first the light rays reach the lens of the camera.  After this, passing through the lenses, these light rays go to the image sensor (CCD Photon Detector).

There are thousands or millions of light-sensitive areas inside this sensor, which capture the light rays falling on them inside an array and convert them into electronic signals and the photo gets saved inside the memory card. These light sensitive areas are called pixels which are the smallest division of the sensor array. Now the electronics signals stored in each pixel of the detector are read rapidly as the intensity value for the respective image location and after the digitization of all the values the image is displayed on the display immediately.Let us understand pixels with an example.

Below you are seeing two types of images: one is a normal image and in the other it is shown by zooming.

Benefits of having more megapixels
Some of the advantages of getting more megapixels are as follows:

1. The photo can be zoomed more

If your camera or mobile camera has more megapixel then the quality of the image will remain intact even if you do digital zoom.  When you zoom in on a low megapixel camera, the pixels of the photo explode.  Therefore, the more megapixels, the more clear the photo will appear on zooming.

2. Better photo editing can be done

Whenever photo editing is done, often the image has to be cropped.  In such a situation, if there are less megapixels inside the image, then the pixels will appear torn when cropped.  Whereas if there are more megapixels, the photo can be cropped with higher quality, which proves to be very helpful for those who do photo editing.

3. Capable of taking great pictures with large prints

The third biggest advantage of more megapixels is that you can print large size images with good quality.  If you are a photographer, or work for media or advertising, then you need to take out large prints.  In this case you must have more megapixel picture.
